Introduction

My name is Carmen Del Real, I am from the Old Wild West (Dodge City, Kansas). Although I'm a Kansan, I've lived in California and often travel to Mexico.

My friends and I on Highway 50, when we went Pokemon hunting.

I am passionate about education and healthcare. I currently work as a Certified Surgical Technologist and volunteer at the Flint Hills Community Center as a Medical Interpreter.

What fascinates me about biology is definitely physiology! I learned to really appreciate evolution. I often think about how the tools that we use and how the food that we consume affects humans and if our bodies will eventually be able to adapt. For example, highly processed food is known to be a contributor to diseases such as diabetes. Will our bodies adapt to did or is this something that can eliminate the humans or shall I say Homo sapiens. During this semester, hope to learn how evolution is currently changing and the implications of it.

  1. Hi Carmen
Nice to meet you! We will talk a bunch about the relationship of diet and other environmental factors and human health. What region of Mexico do you usually visit? I've spend much time in Hidalgo as well as Chiapas and Tabasco. I sorely miss it now that we're stuck due to the pandemic.
    Cheers, Michi

  2. Hey Carmen! Encantado! I'm very impressed that you work as a Medical Interpreter - I took a class that dealt briefly with it this past summer and it was HARD. Then again, I'm not a native Spanish speaker, so I'm definitely not as good ^^' I'm also a big fan of Pokémon GO. Anyways, I hope we get chances to chat this semester bc you seem really cool.

  3. Hi Carmen! It's awesome that you're passionate about education and healthcare. I'm also super interested in physiology, and I'm looking forward to talking about that more this semester in the context of evolution.
